If you and your manager agree that reasonable adjustments are needed you should contact Access to Work to arrange an assessment. Your manager should support you to do this if needed.

Everyone who is employed by Essex County Council can apply for an Access to Work grant.

You can apply for Access to Work online or phone on 0800 121 7479 or textphone 0800 121 7579. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

If you cannot hear or speak on the phone you can use Relay UK on 18001 then 0800 121 7479.

You can use the British Sign Language (BSL) video relay service if you are on a computer or watch the video on how to use the service on mobile or tablet.

Employees or managers can start a discussion about reasonable adjustments.
Contact Access to Work
If the need for assessment is agreed, the employee should contact Access to Work.
Access to Work assessment
Access to Work will get in touch with you to let you know whether they think an assessment is appropriate.
Access to Work report
Following your assessment Access to Work will write a report which they will send to you and your manager.
Making adjustments following an Access to Work assessment
Your manager must start taking the actions recommended in the report without delay.
Deadline for claiming Access to Work funding
We must claim back the funding within nine months of the grant funding letter.
Reclaiming funds from Access to Work
The Wellbeing team will claim the grant funding when all the support is in place.
Access to Work assessment reviews
You can usually contact Access to Work to request an assessment review every three years.
Access to Work equipment when leaving the council
If you leave the council, you maybe able to take equipment with you depending on how it has been funded.
