Supporting employees through change

Line managers are responsible for managing change and seeking support where necessary.

Wellbeing support

Our wellbeing resources can help with your physical, mental, social and financial concerns.

Our employee assistance programme offers employees and their family members access to free, confidential information, advice and telephone counselling. This support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 

There is also a dedicated manager support line. The Employee Assistance Programme’s confidential coaches can offer advice and guidance on matters affecting your team.  This support is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm by, calling 0800 111 6385. 

If you’re facing redundancy 

If you have been unsuccessful in securing a post following a restructure or chosen voluntary redundancy, you may feel uncertain about what your next steps will be.  

Once you have been given notice of redundancy, you will be given a leaver support pack that explains the support available to you in full detail. 

You can get work, debt, pension and benefit advice on GOV.UK if you’re being made redundant, including help with:

  • finding work
  • claiming benefits
  • managing debts
  • Income Tax refunds
  • making pension decisions
  • wellbeing and mental health support

Paid time off for training or to look for another job

If you've been made redundant and have at least 2 years continuous local government service at the date you are due to leave, you can take reasonable amount of paid time off during your notice period to:

  • look for another job
  • take part in training

How much time you can take off will depend on your circumstances.
