Advertise the role

Things to consider when advertising the role.

Agree the methods for advertising the role

The Resourcing team will work with you to agree the appropriate attraction methods for your recruitment need.

For roles that will only be advertised internally, these will need to be posted for at least 3 days.

For roles that will be posted both internally and externally, we suggest posting for at least 5 working days.

Advertise your working style

To attract a wider pool of talent, highlight any options for flexible working. For example, compressed hours, part time and job share.

At interview, you can refer to how your team works when introducing the role and the team. You can also explain what current team members do and ask what the interviewee's preference might be.

Additional attraction tools

There are a number of additional attraction tools you can use to promote your vacancy. Some of these may have an associated cost.

To find out more about these tools, email the Talent Attraction team at curve.resourcing@essex.gov.uk

Video advert

Video adverts show a role or campaign in a totally unique way. They include a range of shots and a number of scenes to portray what you'd like to promote.

A simpler version of this is a talking heads video. These feature one or two angles of a scene where a team member is giving a short message or interview. An example of talking heads can be found on our YouTube channel.

Secondments portal

If you're advertising a secondment opportunity, you can add your role onto the Essex Shared Secondment Portal which advertises the role to employees at other local authorities.

Virtual recruitment event

Get in touch with your audience on a live event, with the option to chat over a message function, one-to-one call or even host your own webinar. Each event can be tailored to your purpose, allowing you to include all your information from job adverts to videos for attendees to see.

Microsite

Our microsites help to share information about your team, ethos and ways of working and give candidates a glimpse of what they can expect from your side of the business. They've been found to increase applications for both internal and external clients. Take a look at the Careers in Castlepoint microsite as an example of what these can look like.

Digital brochure

A digital brochure features branded pages that can feature any pre-existing forms of media, creating one coherent document. These are often used for a wider recruitment campaign, but are just as suitable for a shorter informational piece. See the Tech Services digital brochure to see what these can look like.

Blog

You can provide a glimpse into your team's world of work by writing a blog on the Working for Essex careers site. Blog concepts range from a day in the life to team award wins. The blog can be curated by the talent attraction team to ensure it's as engaging as it can be.

LinkedIn post

Create a message for LinkedIn and we can post it onto our Working for Essex LinkedIn account which has over 2,000 (two thousand) followers.

Specialist media

More unique ideas and marketing channels can be provided by our media partner. For mass-marketing techniques such as billboard or transport advertising, email the Talent Attraction team at curve.resourcing@essex.gov.uk who can put you in touch with our media partner.

Candidate referral scheme

The candidate referral scheme (PDF, 450KB) encourages internal staff to refer external talent into applying for vacancies in exchange for a reward. We recommend you opt into this scheme as it may be beneficial for vacancies which are challenging to recruit to.
