Create a project plan
Once you've determined that your project requires a research governance and ethics review, you will need to create a project plan.
You will only need one project plan which will cover both the research governance and the ethics process.
You should:
- use the Research and evaluation planning template (DOCX, 118KB) to help you plan your research and evaluation and share your plan for a research governance and ethics review
- use the Participant information and survey template (DOCX, 44KB) to help people understand what the research involves, why we are doing it and how their data will be used so they can make an informed decision about taking part
- use the Research consent form template (DOCX, 50KB) if you intend on asking participants to share with you their images or recordings, or intend on taking these yourself
- design the questions that you plan to ask, such as your survey questions or a discussion guide
Things to consider
When planning your research or evaluation project, you should consider:
- Potential research and evaluation project risks and how they may be managed (DOCX, 118KB)
- Sensitive topics and potentially vulnerable or seldom involved groups (DOCX, 81KB)
- Equality, diversity, and inclusion and public involvement in research (essex.gov.uk)
- Rewards and recognition in research and co-production
Ultimate responsibility for the research rests with the project sponsor, not with the Research and Citizen Insight team. So keep the project sponsor informed throughout your project.
Further information on roles can be found in Research standard operating procedures (DOCX, 224KB).
