When people can work

Workstyle personalisation is about Essex County Council (ECC) staff finding a work-life balance that doesn't compromise service delivery or employee wellbeing.

Most roles will allow staff to working flexibly within working hours. Some people might choose to start and finish work a little earlier or later, or have a longer lunch break. 

When agreeing different working hours within your team, you should think about:

  • how your team will interact. If everyone works different hours it may be difficult to arrange time-critical team meetings
  • if a change in working hours would cause problems for colleagues or service users
  • if working outside of the team's usual working hours will work for everyone, including the business
  • possible staffing conflicts and inflexibilities that might make it difficult to respond to changing business needs and team workloads
  • if your team is taking appropriate breaks within working time regulations (see Acas for more information)
