Domestic abuse basic awareness

SETDAB (Southend, Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Board) offer an introduction to domestic abuse e-learning module for all employees.

By the end of the course, you will be able to: 

  • recognise domestic violence and abuse and be aware of the dynamics, impact and the effects on individuals, agencies and society
  • understand the complexities that often surround domestic abuse
  • be aware of referral pathways for professional support and know how to access them

The training will take around 1 hour to complete. You will receive a certificate upon completion.

Understanding domestic abuse and its impact in the workplace

This online course delves into the domestic abuse awareness and response toolkit. It is aimed at all employees.

By the end of the course, you will be able to: 

  • recognise the signs of abuse, by learning to identify the various indicators of domestic abuse, including physical, emotional, and behavioural signs, to better support colleagues and employees
  • understand the impact of domestic abuse in the workplace and on employment, by exploring how domestic abuse affects workplace dynamics, employee performance, and overall organisational health
  • understand the legal and ethical responsibilities of employers in addressing these issues
  • access information about specialist organisations that offer support and resources for those affected by domestic abuse
  • learn how to connect individuals with the appropriate help and support networks

The session will last about 1 hour. It will be run around 8 times a year.

Line managers and People Support

Responding to employees who may be experiencing domestic abuse

Before attending this session, you need to attend and complete the 1 hour ‘Understanding Domestic Abuse and its Impact in the Workplace’ awareness session.

This online advanced training will help provide you with the confidence and skills necessary to respond effectively to cases of domestic abuse in the workplace, in accordance with existing policies and procedures. It is aimed at line managers and People Support colleagues.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • use a range of case studies to develop the ability to assess the risk and needs of employees facing domestic abuse. You will learn to identify the severity of the situation and the appropriate level of intervention required
  • understand how to implement reasonable workplace adjustments to support affected employees. This includes strategies to enhance their safety and ensure they can continue their employment without undue stress or fear
  • gain insights into how to align responses with other workplace policies and procedures, ensuring a cohesive and supportive approach to handling domestic abuse cases
  • develop the necessary skills to approach and support employees sensitively and effectively, fostering a safe and supportive workplace environment

This session will last about 2 hours. It will be run around 8 times a year.
