Overview

Under the Equality Act 2010, the council must pay regard to the General Public Sector Equality Duty. The duty covers age, disability, sex, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity.

This means we must have regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity between different groups
  • foster good relations between different groups

In addition to this, we must have due regard to eliminate discrimination based upon marriage and civil partnership status.
