Sharing flexible workspaces

Includes things to consider when sharing workspaces.

Work is something you do, not somewhere you go. As we are no longer tied to a specific workspace or location (subject to business requirements) we can work flexibly from home or from wireless enabled remote sites, such as local libraries, partner buildings and designated areas in council locations.

Meetings

Do you need to meet face to face or would Microsoft Teams be more appropriate and or efficient? It could save you travel time and costs.

To book a room or hot desk, use the online booking system. You can choose room layout and book hospitality services.

Sharing workspaces

When working flexibly please remember:

  • to bring your own laptop, chargers, headsets, mouse and keyboard, as required. Many workstations will have a monitor that you can connect to your laptop
  • to clean your workspace before and after use. Antibacterial spray and blue towels are provided
  • to clear your desk completely if you will be away for more than an hour
  • to not alter the settings on specialist equipment
  • to be considerate of others around you when having discussions in open workspaces
  • to use headsets when making online calls or attending virtual meetings, such as Microsoft Teams
  • for face-to-face meetings, try to use informal meeting areas where possible, or book a meeting room
  • when you finish, ensure that the workstation is clear of any paperwork, cups, rubbish, extra equipment and personal items, and that it is cleaned ready for the next user

Working from your local council library

Many Essex libraries have desk space and meeting rooms that you can occasionally work from if you require a drop-down space whilst travelling between locations, or if you want a change from working at home.

Use the drop-down booking form if you want to book ahead. Alternatively, you may phone the library in advance, or just pop in and see what space they have available.

Staying contactable

To make sure you are always contactable while working, please make sure your email signature is up to date. Ensure your status on Microsoft Teams is up-to-date to show when you are busy, when you are out-and-about and when you are contactable.

Super Users

You can find SuperUsers across the council, supporting most of the technologies we use at ECC. You can filter or sort Super Users by team, location or technology supported.
