Cyber security strategy - Purpose

Published: 25 July 2025

From a wider organisational perspective, the purpose of this strategy is to help address cyber security as the framework of policies, practices and procedures established to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information assets.

It extends beyond technical digital matters and includes enhancing cultural behaviours towards cyber security practice and policies to encompass the protection of all forms of sensitive information, including:

  • customer data
  • financial records
  • proprietary information

Ultimately, effective cyber and information security is about safeguarding:

  • the impact on people whose data we might lose if we don’t protect it
  • our ability to deliver services if we don’t have the data that those services require for delivery.

This further impacts the trust and reputation of the council by demonstrating our commitment to protecting the information assets entrusted to it by customers, partners and stakeholders.
