Operational field-based worker

An operational field-based worker works outside their home or an office and rarely uses computers.

Operational field-based workers:

  • work in the wider environment and community most of the time
  • rarely use computers or complete desk-based work
  • use their 'work base' as a place to pick up and drop off equipment

Where you work will depend on your role's requirements. Your role may involve regular 'in person' contact with colleagues and service users.

On the rare occasions you need to use a computer or desk, you can use a shared workspace in a council location.

Your working hours

Your working hours will depend on the specific requirements of your role.

If you need to permanently change your hours of work, for example from full time to part time, you'll need to follow the information in the formal right to request flexible working guidance.

If you change roles

Your agreed workstyle and workstyle personalisation relate to your current role.

If you apply internally for another role, you must apply for it on the basis of the working pattern and location outlined in the job advertisement.

If you have a work arrangement passport because of a disability or caring arrangement, this will continue, where reasonable.
