Noise and noise risk assessments

The council's duty to protect employees and contractors who may be exposed to noise at work explained.

There are two pieces of regulation that the council has to make sure we are compliant with. The Noise at Work guidance written by the Heath and Safety Executive, and the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. There are individual and collective responsibilities so it is important that, in order to comply with the legislation, we are all aware of the steps we can take to minimise exposure.

Our noise policy is for everyone who works for or on behalf of Essex County Council, whether they are an employee of the council or a contractor who may be exposed to noise at work.

Noise assessments

If there is a potential issue with noise at work, use an assessment form to work out what action could be taken. There are two versions, one for music and entertainment venues and one for other premises. You can find the assessment forms in the Noise Policy.
