Home working health and safety

Essex County Council's responsibilities for your health and safety when you're working from home.

You're a home worker if you permanently work from your home or split your working time between home and the workplace (sometimes called hybrid working).

We have the same health and safety responsibilities for you whether you are working at home or in a workplace.

Like any worker, you must take care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be harmed by your actions while you are working.

Home working health and safety policy

The Home Working Policy and Guidance helps everyone to meet their duties under the law. It explains how you are expected to look after your own safety when working at home and what managers need to do to reduce or control risks.

The working from home risk assessment should be used should be used alongside the Home Working Policy and Guidance to reduce or control safety risks when working from home. It can help identify hazards and what actions need to be taken.

Working from home checklist

If you work regularly from home, you should go through this checklist with your line manager to make sure working regularly from your home or another location away from the workplace is suitable for your circumstances.

This checklist should be reviewed regularly and whenever there are changes to your home or work circumstances.
