The Emergency Planning and Resilience team

Find out more about the team that facilitates emergency preparedness, response and business continuity arrangements within the council.

When emergencies happen, be it flooding, severe weather, pandemics or terrorism, the public expect Essex County Council and other organisations to be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to meet the urgent needs of affected local communities within Essex. This is where the Emergency Planning and Resilience team come in.

The role of team

Within the council, the Emergency Planning and Resilience team is responsible for ensuring the council is prepared and ready to respond to emergencies by facilitating and coordinating both emergency planning and business continuity arrangements within the organisation.

The team’s day-to-day roles include:

  • assessing risks
  • developing emergency and business continuity plans
  • training staff
  • exercising procedures
  • providing advice and guidance to council services

On-call emergency duty officer

The team also operates a 24/7 on-call rota which acts as the first point of contact for the council when emergencies occur.

Once notified of an incident, the on-call officer will assess the information provided to them and determine the necessary course of action that is required from the council. Members of the Emergency Planning and Resilience team will then support the coordination of the council’s response as well as provide advice and guidance to those managing the council’s efforts.
