Useful tips when using the templates

Font and styles

The font and styles have been pre-set in all templates.

When you open the templates, placeholder copy has been used to illustrate all the available styles. You can overwrite this.

In Word, you can select text styles in ‘Styles’, located in the toolbar of the ‘Home’ tab.

In PowerPoint, slide 17 explains the different styles for each text levels. You can copy and paste the styles from this slide, if they are not already available on your chosen slide design.

Bullets will only be red, as per the template, if you copy the pre-set style.

Colours

We have a selection of our brand colours pre-set in Word and PowerPoint.

In PowerPoint, we have added all our brand colours in the ‘Custom Colours’ section of the ‘Font Color’ drop-down menu.

Images

Sample images have been added as placeholders in our templates.

In Word, you can change these by right-clicking on the image and select ‘Change Picture’ in the pop-up menu.

Images need to sit ’In Line with Text’ in Word to be accessible. To do this, select the image, the ‘Picture Format’ tab will appear. Click on ‘Picture Format’ to access the toolbar, then select ’Position’ and ’In Line with Text’.

In the ‘Report’ Word templates, the cover images are placed in the header. The image and our branded curve are two separate objects. To change the image:

  • double-click at the top of page
  • right-click on the image, not the curve
  • select ‘Change Picture’ in the pop-up menu to choose your image
  • select ‘Send to Back’, so your image appears behind the curve

In PowerPoint, you can change these by deleting the current picture and inserting a new one by either:

  • clicking on the ’Pictures’ icon that appears in the frame after the image has been deleted
  • right-click on the image and choose ‘Change Picture’ in the pop-up menu

To resize or move the image select the image, the ‘Picture Format’ tab in the toolbar will appear. Select the ’Crop’ icon, black corner and side marks will appear. Use the:

  • black corner and slide marks to crop your image
  • white corner circles to resize your image
  • greyed-out area of the image to move your image into position, by clicking and holding

Charts

We have pre-set colours in Word and PowerPoint using a selection of our branded colours. These pre-set colours are accessible.

We recommend creating any charts or diagrams in PowerPoint and then copy into Word.
