Time off for fire marshals

Take an additional half day's leave if you're a fire marshal.

If you act as a fire marshal or fire warden for Essex County Council (ECC), you can take paid time off in recognition of your commitment to fire safety.

How much time off you can take

Fire marshals are entitled to an additional half day’s leave (pro rata for part time workers).

In order to take the leave, fire marshals should have:

  • been trained to undertake their fire marshal role
  • carried out their evacuation procedure duties during at least one drill, and provided feedback where appropriate
  • carried out their monthly Fire Marshal Inspection on a consistent basis

Once you have agreed your time off with your manager, you should book your time off in My Oracle under 'other paid leave'. Then choose the ‘other policy-based paid leave' option.
