Payroll giving

Support a charity by giving money through PAYE.

Payroll Giving is a way of giving money to charity without paying tax on it. It must be paid through PAYE from someone's wages.

It's a flexible scheme which allows anyone who receives their pay through payroll to give regularly and on a tax free basis to the charities and good causes of their choice.

Payroll Giving is a fantastic way to support your favourite charity or charities tax-free. It literally costs you less to give more.

Donations through pay are great for the good causes you care about, providing charities with the regular, reliable income stream that enables them to plan and budget for the future.

We've teamed up with Charities Trust to take part in Payroll Giving. Your donation is taken from your salary before you are taxed, which means you donate more than it costs you to, for example: ‌

If you donate £1 per month, you pay:

  • 80p if you’re a basic rate taxpayer
  • 60p if you’re a higher rate taxpayer
  • 55p if you’re an additional rate taxpayer

The remainder of the donation is taken from the tax you pay each month.

You donate

Basic tax payer

(20%) pays

Higher tax payer

(40%) pays

Additional tax payer

(45%)

£5.00 £4.00 £3.00 £2.75
£10.00 £8.00 £6.00 £5.50
£50.00 £40.00 £30.00 £27.50

If you want to support many charities, or if you want to be more flexible and give different amounts at different times or to different charities you can open a My Giving Account. Your monthly donation goes into your own charity account and then you give what you want, to the charity you want, when you want.

The minimum monthly donation for the My Giving Account is £10. Charities Trust recommends a minimum donation of £1 per month for standard Payroll Giving.

How to start donating

Choose between a standard Payroll Giving or open a My Giving Account. Complete the Payroll Giving form on the Charities Trust website.
