Car leasing

The council operates a car leasing scheme for permanent employees meeting the following criteria:

• ​​​3,500 reimbursable business miles; or
• posts Grade C and above; or
• posts approved for a lease car by the appropriate director

The lease is a binding agreement and is classed by HMRC as a taxable benefit.

A wide range of budget, hybrid and electric vehicles can be leased through the scheme.

There is a monthly salary deduction for the private use of the car. Find out what your monthly charge includes (DOC, 1.32MB).

Applying for a lease car

To apply for a lease car, you should read the car provision scheme policy and ordering procedure document (DOCX, 660KB).

If you are eligible for a car under the scheme, you can fill out the application form.

You will also need to fill in a D906/ADD 2020 DVLA Mandate Form​ (PDF, 1MB).​​​​

Booking a test drive

It's possible for eligible employees to test drive a vehicle by booking demonstration vehicles through the car provision scheme team on 03330 137776. Restrictions apply. Read the car provision scheme policy​​ for details.

​End of lease procedure

The end of lease procedure will be sent by email along with renewal and MOT reminders.​

Leaving the council

If you're leaving the council, contact the Fleet team as soon as possible to arrange the return of the lease car.

You will need to pay an early termination fee and this will be taken from your final payslip. The earlier you can contact them the better, as this fee can be spread over several months if needed.
