The pregnant and recently pregnant employees policy and guidance helps manage risks in the workplace. 

The risk assessment should be reviewed at least every three months or following medical advice.

Pregnant and recently pregnant employees may be at risk from: 

  • manual handling, which is the moving of items either by lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing or pulling 
  • work-related stress 
  • standing or sitting still for long periods  
  • exposure to infectious diseases  
  • exposure to chemicals, lead and radioactive materials  
  • work patterns  
  • acts of aggression or violence
