The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Questioning (LGBTQ+) Employee Network aims to make a real difference for LGBTQ+ employees and people of Essex, and we work hard to influence positive change.
Our objectives include:
- being a voice for LGBTQ+ employees
- providing a confidential support network for welfare
- raising awareness of LGBTQ+ people and issues
- contributing to council strategy and employee development
- welcoming consultation from service areas
- supporting individuals and communities in Essex, through the LGBTQ+ friendly services that the council provides

Membership
Any self-defining LGBTQ+ employee is eligible to join. Membership is confidential, unless individuals are happy for it to be disclosed.
Our Microsoft Teams channel provides regular updates and a safe space for discussion.
Members often attend meetings, get involved in projects, or help at events.
Anyone is welcome to join our Viva Engage group.
Essex County Council branded Pride lanyards
Pride symbols are often displayed to show allyship of LGBTQ+ people and to help raise awareness. Our council branded Pride lanyards are a visual way to show our organisation and employees are committed to working in an inclusive way.
How to claim a Pride lanyard to wear with your ID card
- Read the How to be an LGBTQ+ Ally guide, or complete the LGBTQ+ awareness module on My Learning, or you could do both. Links to the guide and module can be found in the advice, learning and resources section on this page.
- Complete the pledge and request form.
- Wait for an email confirming your lanyard is ready to collect from your nominated location.
- Collect your lanyard and wear it with Pride!
