Park and ride

There are 3 park and ride facilities available in Essex:

Parking at Marks Tey station

We have a small number of parking spaces at Marks Tey station reserved for our employees, to encourage train travel for the second half of your journey.

A permit costs £200 (two hundred) per year. This works out as £16.67 per month, with a minimum usage of six months. This can be paid every 3, 6 or 12 months.

Permits are issued via an application process and set criteria. To apply, contact Travel.PlanTeam@essex.gov.uk.

Electric vehicle (EV) charging ports

EV charging points are installed at some of our key buildings, including:

  • County Hall, Chelmsford - 6 chargers
  • Ely House, Basildon - 12 chargers
  • Essex Records Office, Chelmsford - 2 chargers
  • Goodman House, Harlow - 8 chargers
  • Magnet House, Clacton - 2 chargers
  • Saffron Walden Multi Centre - 2 chargers

The charging spaces at County Hall must be booked before you arrive on site, by using the My Room Bookings system. You will need to bring your own charging cable.

To make sure that as many Essex County Council (ECC) employees and partners can use the chargers, you will need to move your EV once it's fully charged. An overstay fee will apply if your EV remains connected after a charge is completed.

Any non EVs parked in these spaces or EVs that are not actively charging will be reported to the Facilities Management team.

Charging capacity

The maximum charging capacity is 22kW, dependent on the vehicle's charging capacity. However if two cars are charging from the same unit, each car will receive a 11kW charge.

How to use the EV chargers

All chargers are linked to Fuuse software who manage the charge points.

To use the chargers, you will need to:

  1. Scan the QR code on the charging point to download the Fuuse app and register your details.
  2. Once registered, follow the instructions within the app to begin your charging session.
  3. To end your session, use the app to follow the instructions for stopping the charge.
  4. Remember to take your charging cables back with you once you've finished.

Payment and support

The charging cost per kWh will be set by ECC, rates are viable due to change in energy costs and will be confirmed within the app prior to charging.

If you have any issues with charging, a phone number for Fuuse support is provided on the charger stickers.

The Fuuse App also allows you to register an AllStar card, so you can use your card directly on the chargers RFID reader to start and stop charging.
