Maternity leave

What maternity leave and pay you're entitled to and how to plan your leave and return to work.

Maternity leave if you lose your baby

We support all parents who experience the loss of a pregnancy or a child after birth, regardless of the nature of their loss, and whatever their length of service.

Baby loss before the end of the 24th week of pregnancy

If you experience pregnancy loss before the end of the 24th week of pregnancy, you will not be entitled to maternity leave and pay.

Instead, other types of leave are available and can be arranged with the support of your manager.

You can find out more about the support available if you experience pregnancy loss.

Baby loss after the 24th week of pregnancy, including stillbirth

If your baby dies during or after the 25th week of pregnancy, or after their birth, you are still entitled to maternity leave and pay.

You can find out more about the support available if you experience pregnancy loss, stillbirth and neonatal death.
