Pension scheme life cover
Your pension scheme may include death in service life cover payable to your family if you die before taking your pension.
If you die while working for the council, your next of kin may be entitled to receive death in service benefits. This is usually a one off lump sum death grant. They may also be eligible to receive a pension.
For members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), the lump sum death grant is calculated as 3 times your annual pensionable pay.
